Happy Anniversary to the Dreamcast

Postby RyoHazuki84 » Mon Nov 26, 2012 4:25 pm

On this day in Japan, Dreamcast launched with just a few titles, Virtua Fighter 3TB, July, Godzilla Generations and I believe Pen Pen. And with Virtua Fighter 3TB, came Project Berkley. I actually bought an import Dreamcast in May of 1999. I had a feeling like the Saturn, it would be an import gamer's console and in some way, I was right. But it is still my favorite console of all time.

yeah, their only good launch title was virtua fighter 3tb and the japanese version didn't officially have a versus mode. it was 2 players, but if you won a fight, the loser would have to choose a new character and you were stuck with the character you won with.

godzilla generations got a lot of bad reviews, but it was one of my few guilty pleasure games and i still enjoy playing it.

LoL Godzilla. It's a bad game but i used to have fun playing with it.
I'm not with you saying Dreamcast had a bad launch. Still remeber the videogames magazine showing people sleeping on streets to have one in Japan.

Played it yesterday on a demo disc. One of those games that use the 4 main buttons as how to move and the analog stick is inverted to aim. So down is up and up is down. Personally I hate that. Shows the DC needed another analog stick.

I always use inverted aiming if I can, but it sounds like that would throw me off anyway, the whole business about moving with the right hand and aiming with the left.

Shame as I wanted to like it. MDK had a similar issue if I remember right.

If only they waited for Sonic Adventure/Soul Calibur to be available like they did with the states. Often a console will take off in the short run but the real test comes over the long haul. If you can't even do that much, you probably weren't the most prepared.

Wow, I cant believe 9/9/99 (The U.S. release) was that long ago. I remember kids skipping school on that day and spending $500 or more on the system, controllers, and some games.
