Shenmue 1 Undub 99min CD01 for Dreamcast

Update:

I have finally compiled a new script for the incompatible cinematics that are listed in a previous post. This will help in making these cinematics load the correct subs/speech etc.

So far I have compiled 3 different scripts for this mod:
One for FREE speech, One for the compatible cinematics, and One for the incompatible cinematics.

There will still be alot of manual editing for the incompatible cinematics.

Hopefully I can complete the shenmue1 undub project this month?

Once I complete the shenmue1 undub mod, I will start on another project to improve the 99min shenmue2 english speech version.

I have alot of other dreamcast projects that I have set aside for months now...

CD1 and CD2 are now 100% complete! (PAL Version, CDDA, Coca Cola Mod, FREE SPEECH & CINEMATICS FULL Undub)
Currently working on CD3.

Finally the FREE SPEECH and CINEMATICS are completely undubbed now. (JP Speech, ENG Subs)

**The only time that NPCs are silent is if there are speech files that were missing or incompatible. (No way to fix this!)
**If an NPC is silent then ENG subs are still used. (No more JP/ENG hybrid Subs lol)

I am glad that I got the undub working properly after all this time.
CD3 will be completed soon.

Hello Smith,

After a long time of inactivity I visited the dojo again and found out about your recent efforts in rebuilding a Shenmue version which consists of a Japanese dub and English subtitles (what I always wanted to have). First of all, thank you for your efforts and the time you invested in this.

Maybe some of you guys will remember last year when I posted a guide how to translate all subtitles the Japanese STREAM folder afs files. I started translating on my own and translated every cinematic afs of disc 1 and even swapped all vending machine files to make it have the authentic soft drink brands (it was Wude who teached me this) but when I got to the free quest stuff I quit because I saw no way I could translate all this stuff in less than a decade. I even made an Image of the game and tested my edited stuff. The vending machines were ok and my cinematics had perfect lip-sync.

I thought there is no other way to do this than manually translating since the lip-sync data is somehow connected to the original afs files' content (as far as I remember correct me if I'm wrong) and swapping files would generate poor quality.

I am interested about the process how you made this.
How did you rebuild these disks? From what I have read so far I guess you injected the English .str files to the Japanese afs containers. Do you have any lip-sync issues or do you get perfect results? I have not had the time to test any of your disks so far, so please forgive me if I am asking stupid stuff.

You have no idea, I've been waiting 10 years for this. I'm totally OCD about having games like these in Jap dub and English sub and I have Shenmue JP and Shenmue II PAL so it's perfect for me!
I'll await the download links patiently while I search for some CD-R 99 online (I have a NEC ND-3520AW so I should be good there).

The undub is for 80min cd-r's NOT 99min cd-r's.
The only version will be an 80min version.
This is just an old thread for an older undub version I was working on at the time.
When I finally get the undub uploaded I will try and get the admins here to delete all these different threads to help not to confuse ppl as to where to d/l or what versions etc.

Currently I am working with a well known dc group to further optimize the disks.
This is why I have not uploaded anything yet.
The undub version that Adam has is a pre-release. (not optimized)

The disks will be optimized to the extent that they are as close as possible to the actual shenmue1 gd-rom's.
I know its taking awhile for this...but, I want this release to be as perfect as possible.
I started the undub project in February and it is now the end of October.

I can assure you its not going to be that much longer of a wait for you to be able to play Shenmue1 undubbed.

I started doing a version of shenmue with japanese voice subtitle english there some time ago.

The technique consisted in taking the japanese file version (.afs) and remplace the version of shenmue (pal).

The problem is that the subtitle is recovering japanese.

Should replace all the japanese subtitle by english subtitle in the .srf file

This what you do?
