I agree and know a few Examples but am curious thinking you have something specific in mind.

RE4 is the best example (because it not only hurt RE as a series it kind of ruined third person shooters) So many games try to replicate the same formula even down the areas and enemy types.

Thats why so many games try to copy it, but they don't do a great job at actually using the core-mechanic.

He said it's a great game, but that it ruined the series. Despite being awesome, it took RE in a different direction and the series hasn't been the same since.

I can understand that, but I do think "ruined" is kind of a harsh word. Itchanged the series, and a lot of people were unhappy about that, but I wouldn't really agree that it ruined anything.
And third person shooters taking after it and failing isn't really RE4's fault; it's the fault of shoddy developers (depending on what games we're talking about here).

I kept hoping that Aksys Games would pick up the localization rights to this. Wouldn't have been hard, what with their standing close relationship with Ark System Works. I wants me some Kunio-kun.

You generally wouldn't like what I have to say on the subject since you like FF13 and RE6 but they are very regressive when it comes to gameplay. The funny part is, the problems with a lot of these games were introduced in the best games in the series. A lot of developers have been focusing on just 1 or two aspects of a design and pushing them far more then anything else.

I've been playing a lot of games in general and taking notes on what I find. Theres so much little stuff that people don't realize is pretty important. Aesthetically you could say that Penny arcade 3 and FF6 are similar, but then you realize theres 1 sound attack and attack animation in PA3 but every weapon type has a sound and animation, and every shield has a different sprite.

I've got pages and pages of stuff that new games gloss over or don't do at all but are actually kind of important.

Kind a knob sucking post but when people read Segata's posts tearing a game apart. He's not saying you Should not enjoy it. Think some people take it as you should not enjoy it because yadda yadda...

Well using words like "ruined" will put people on the defensive. I get what he's saying, but it would've been better if it was more like "I didn't like how it changed 3rd person shooters since many used it's core mechanics improperly since". OL put it better, and this is coming from someone who liked RE4 but disliked RE5.

But thinking along those lines, isn't it the same with all other games? There will always be a game changer that will inspire clones that will be shoddily made. Only thing about Resident Evil is I do have a hankering to go back to the Classic style after playing through the newer games, including the Arcade shooters.

Well fans can hurt games if the developers don't.
Castlevania SotN is a great example. Great game and changed the series. That style for the series was great. When Konami decided to bring the series back to its days on the NES and SNES. Fans pissed on it despite the game is in many ways Castlevania 4. (to me that is the best in the series)

Fans pissed and shit on it and called for Konami's head and want the SoTN games back. 3DS game was good but people shit on it and idiodicly compared it to GOW

Thing I learned about fans over the years is that sometimes they don't know what they want. They want change at first, then when they get it they don't want it anymore. Some are content on buying the exact same thing over and over. Creators will want to try new things and see if they work.

Another example is DmC. Not a fantastic game, but it's a fun good playable one. Fans got too defensive on the little changes, in turn the Devs took it too personally. Possibly ruined a chance to expand on that new mythology as it had major potential.
