The biggest reason SMS failed was not the lack of 3rd party support. No. You would think Nazi Nintendo keeping all the 3rd parties hostage would be the reason.

No it's the fucking horrific box arts. Wonder Boy,Rastan,Ys,Phantasy Star,Miracle Warriors and more. System had amazing games but holy shit,you think Wii boxes are hard to look at in Gamestop..ugh SMS makes those look like Rembrant.

Just a few but not sure it has one good one at all. Sure a lot of Boxart was bad in the 80's but that's even worse. Curb Appeal SEGA Curb Appeal. Sad SMS is a better console tech wise than NES and is very impressive.

Pheonix Wright on Wii is satisfying in a way that only an anal retentive person like me could appreciate. For really stupid reasons, I prefer these versions over the DS releases.

Despite how shit it was, I couldn't help but love The Ninja. Wanna talk difficult games though? How about Spider-Man on the Master System? I could never get past this part where you're after Electro or someone. Every time you got to a certain bit, you just got pummeled with lightning bolts n couldn't move. Was fucking ridiculous. Plus it was never obvious what you were meant to do anyway. Pissed me off to fuck.

I can appreciate a failure coming as a result of underestimating the importance of effective visual communications (aka graphic design) in wooing customers, although I think that was just one contributing factor among many. If I recall correctly Bambi once said the Sega master system did well enough along side the NES in his region, that it was mostly in the US that the system got strong armed into obscurity. The crumby box art certainly didn't help matters, but there was more at play in my opinion.

The 3rd party comment was satire. Still SMS only sold 13 million. Compared to NES 60 million.

It's true however in the SMS in the US no one even knew about it. I never heard of one until many years ago long after it was dead.

I was lucky enough to have SMS as a primary console when younger, my Dad opted for that over the NES. Back then all of the kids who had an NES always wanted to come over and play the SMS using the 3D glasses for Missile Defense 3D and other supported titles. Not to mention playing actual quality arcade games at home, like Hang On and Outrun. I still have it along with all of the accessories and such in pristine condition. We had an NES to boot as an Uncle handed one over with a ton of games (he owned a rental shop), so I experienced just about everything it had to offer and I too loved it. The Sega Master System however, that was the console of choice due to it's innovation. There's a lot of Sega fans because of later reasons, though I'm happy to have experienced it all since the literal beginning.

I er-hem "appropriated" a SMS because my parents were Nintendo people. I didn't have a ton of games but the few I had made me really love it.

They are using each others stuff. Are they really competing then? Imagine back in the day if you could use Sega CD on SNES and SNES accessories on Genesis.

RE: Rev is soo much better then RE6, if they had taken some of the scenarios and models from 6, applied some ideas from 0 and 5 and kept a lot of the control stuff from Rev (like basically having the ability to make the controls crap is awesome) I just wish there was more to this game then just the Zenobia. I'd love a scenarios on Terragrigia, I'd love to see some non zoidberg zombies and maybe have a few boss battles and puzzles.
