Ex-Microsoft director Adam Orth discusses Xbox One #dealwithit controversy
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013- ... ontroversy
Seven months after he spoke out online over the public response to Xbox One's "always online" policy, Adam Orth, then a creative director director at Microsoft, has finally adressed the storm of internet rage that followed.

Orth gained instant notoriety after defending Microsoft's old Xbox One online policies via Twitter, at a time when the company was still advocating the device as requiring a 24-hour online check-in.

Orth was quickly turned into a online meme.

Less than a week later he had resigned his position and left the company.

"Sorry, I don't get the drama around having an 'always on' console," Orth had written. "Every device now is 'always on.' That's the world we live in. #dealwithit

"Sorry for expressing my personal opinion about what I want from the electronic devices that I pay for on Twitter," Orth later replied, after the internet backlash had begun. "Jesus."

Orth spoke publicly about the matter for the first time last night during a speech at GDC Next, attended by Polygon. He now knew that expressing the opinion publicly had been a mistake, he admitted, although he stood by his right to speak freely over the subject.

"I exercised incredibly poor judgment expressing my personal opinion in a public forum about a volatile and divisive topic in the gaming community," he explained. "I made it even worse by continuing that conversation sarcastically with a close friend. While the tone was natural and normal for us, the rest of the world heard and read something very different. It's easy now for me to see the anger, outrage and how controversial it was based on my professional position and the tone in which I delivered my opinion.

"While I stand behind that opinion as well as the right to have and express it, how I said it and how I conducted myself was wrong. This was a conversation I should have had with my colleagues over a beer rather than on Twitter. I absolutely deserved any and all rational criticism and discussion based on my opinion. Unfortunately, that's not what happened."

Orth also went into detail about the impact his opinions had on him - including the repercussions for his family, who also faced harassment over the issue. Orth was personally subjected to abusive emails and phone calls as well as a constant stream of threatening messages via social media.

"Were any of these threats credible? Unlikely, but I wasn't going to put myself and my family at risk," he concluded. "Ultimately we had to leave town to feel safe. We had to completely rebuild our life and fortify our digital life as well as all of our financial accounts in order to protect ourselves and our assets."

Since the drama, Orth has moved to Santa Monica and founded a new games development company which is working on its first game. The event changed him "forever", he said, but he had emerged "stronger".

Sony nearly breaks even on manufacturing costs to make the PS4. Each unit is said to be about $381.
Looks like Sony might actually eventually MAKE money on the PS4 given that manufacturing costs decrease over time.

Platinum Games Creative Director Is Fed Up With Bayonetta 2 Port Begging
http://mynintendonews.com/2013/12/11/pl ... t-begging/
Platinum Games creative director JP Kellams has revealed on Twitter that he is fed up with Microsoft and Sony gamers requesting that Bayonetta 2 be ported to the Xbox and the PlayStation. Kellams says that anything he posts on the Bayonetta 2 Facebook page turns into requests to port the Wii U exclusive to the Xbox and the PlayStation. Here’s what he had to say on Twitter.

“I hate posting anything Bayonetta 2 on our Facebook. Not because I hate Bayonetta 2, but because I hate the pedantic port-begging.”

“It’s been over a year since we announced. We heard you. We get it. We are just happy that we get to make Bayonetta 2 for the patient fans.”

^^That's really cool. Work out a few kinks, and it wouldn't seem too out there for Nintendo to actually do something like that, maybe re-release the games on 3DS with that effect.
Be nice if there were a way to separate background objects though. Something like Air Fortress (one of my favorite games on NES) wouldn't work as it is now, because the complex background patterns would bleed with the foreground stuff. Be great if they could figure out a workaround.

I thought a million would seem like a "disappointment" nowadays?

Looking back on it I really did enjoy it once through, though more in the light of a movie that you see and enjoy. I never felt connected like I did with Heavy Rain. I always have the urge to pop that back in, mostly due to it's grounded setting and plot. Not enough of that in gaming, wish Quantic would head in that direction more so than the opposite.

3DS sales reach 11.5 million in US alone, Nintendo calls system a "powerhouse"

Nintendo has now sold more than 11.5 million "3DS family" units in the United States alone, the company announced today. Worldwide, Nintendo has sold more than 34.98 million systems, meaning the U.S. market makes up about one-third of all sales. Importantly, Nintendo counts 3DS XL and the 2DS as part of the "3DS family."

Gamers also bought a record number of 3DS games in 2013, Nintendo said. The company sold over 16 million combined packaged and digital 3DS games last year in North America, an increase of 45 percent compared to 2012.

On a worldwide basis, Nintendo has sold more than 122 million 3DS games."Nintendo 3DS is a powerhouse with games and experiences that appeal to all kinds of players," Nintendo of America marketing executive Scott Moffitt said.

Moffitt added that the "best days" of the 3DS are still to come in 2014 and beyond.

In other news, Nintendo's stock are at level with Sony's now too.

So much for "handheld gaming is dead, phone/tablet games have taken over, yada yada" and "Nintendo is doomed", journalists. :---)

According to Capcom, Square-Enix & Ubisoft, 2 million would be a disappointment to them. lol
