Shenmue was ahead of its time and went unnoticed, now games like The Walking Dead use the same mechanics and are hailed as game of the year..

Nope I'm very serious. I think Shenmue has some terrible writing and a overall bad story. The Walking Dead on the other hand is always intresting and exciting. Often with Shenmue you was just pressing a QTE to get a kids ball back from some bullies while in The Walking Dead you would be doing it to fight for your life and to keep others alive.

I think on the story front it's not really fair to compare them, considering the huge maturation the medium has gone through since 1999.
But mechanically (which is what the topic picture is really referencing)?
Yeah, it's silly that Shenmue was lambasted, while the Walking Dead gets GOTY. But again, different times of release, so the audience is different for both.
