Ryo Hazuki to be included on SASRT for iOS & Android

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed will be released on January 2nd for both iOS & Android. Included with the mobile versions of the game is Ryo Hazuki. This time Ryo can race with vehicles based on old Sega arcade games like Out Run, Space Harrier, and Hang On.

This is great! I'm really glad to see that Ryo is included in the mobile version right from the beginning.
Hopefully the DLC will get released soon aswell and I still hope it arrives on consoles aswell.

I'll be very surprised if this is not a timed exclusive to create hype around the mobile versions. An actual DLC announcement for PC and/or consoles will surely follow, once they've wrung the most out of this stunt.

Still, I can only imagine the uproar happening right now amongst more reactionary fans. I daren't look.

At this time I can confirm that he will indeed be returning to the franchise, but for right now, only in the iOS and Android versions of the game - which launches tomorrow.

In order to unlock him, you have to complete a full streak of weekly challenges - a mobile-centric feature that allows you to enter certain race types on a time limit.

Steve Lycett of Sumo Digital has nipped any rumors that this was a "clue" about Shenmue 3 in the bud, posting on the Sega forum here.

More recently in that thread, with probable relation to whether Ryo will still be added to PC/console versions (as that was the current debate at the time of his reply), he states: "We're under directions to not talk about some things, you'll have to bear with us."

A Sega employee acknowledging that Sega should get to work on Shenmue III inside of a Sega racing game. They weren't going this far in the first game. I don't think this rumor is "nipped" at all. In fact, I think it adds fuel to the fire.

Keep in mind that RARE has trolled the idea of a new Killer Instinct for years. Look where we're at now.
