Does this happen in the English dub?

I love how I'm still finding out new things about this game after 15 years.

I've seen this video before but it seems I haven't looked at everything as I don't remember that particular scene when you lose that one fight. I'm curious if the game continues afterwards and you really have no money or if you'll get a retry and that money stealing was just added for show.

I just realised that I have a save at the very end of disc 2. It shouldn't take me too long to get this scene so I'll tell you how it goes in a few hours.

Edit: My dreamcast kept freezing on the loading screens and I got frustrated as hell and gave up. I'll try again soon :/

I can confirm this happens on the Overseas version, disc 3. That's when the thugs ask you for "Insurance".

Not seen it myself but then that fight is over as soon as the black screen changes. Just hit the RT and Kick button and you take all 3 out with one roundhouse kick.

did you find out whether it was possible to get your money back? or is it gone forever by losing that fight...

Well as you can see at the end of the video, the money is gone and the game continues as normal.
I haven't played further to see if Ryo somehow gets his money after one of the other fights but I doubt that would happen. The game simply punishes you for losing that super-easy fight.
