Yu Suzuki's latest tile is a new "Virtua Fighter" card-battle based browser game.

This is the link to the game:
http://sp.dmm.com/netgame/application/detail/app_id/97138

Of course, it's in Japanese, but it's available for per-registration.

It's painful to see that Suzuki can only make these small budget 2D games. Will he ever be able to run wild like back in the good old days of SEGA.

What a weak reveal of a game. Well at least this project won't take much time and effort and if development of Shenmue III is going to start Yu can quickly get onto that task.

So clearly Sega have no bother letting Yu use one of their licenses. Least that's a good sign of some sort of relationship.

I dont understand why no third party companies are not hiring him? Is his reputation really that tainted? Or does he personally prefer being his own boss, and working on small titles.

A bit of both, maybe? SEGA are such evil pricks putting him on crappy license browser game duty.
It's unfortunate that he's now found himself in a similar situation as if he didn't leave SEGA in the first place, lol.

Very true. I dont understand why he created Ys net if all he was going to do is create sega titles.

Hopefully one day, he'll return to his former glory.

Maybe... just maybe... he actually wanted to make these games. As he keeps saying, he doesn't really play video games, so probably doesn't realise it's some surprising, underwhelming letdown for gamers. And even if he did know, then why would he even give a fuck? He obviously has the creative freedom to branch out into areas that he finds interesting, and can even use IPs he helped create to promote said games.

Other than the lack of media coverage he receives for all things not Shenmue, Suzuki has it pretty good.

- A summary of Gamelab Tokyo Conference 2014.
- Yu Suzuki makes an appearance at 03:40 on the video.

http://www.rtve.es/alacarta/videos/zoom-net/

It's in Espanol, and Sandro Marmelo from Shenmue500K provided a translation (and some comments about it):
He [Yu Suzuki] said that:
"The way games are designed have changed a lot over the years. That's incredible that, nowadays, everyone can create a 3D game... That's possible because of the free software suites scattered all over the Internet and their very ease of use, and also because of the powerful graphic engines, which are easily accessible to anyone."

He said this in a sort of independent games developer conference. It is stated that there's a growing market for independent developers, and that Japan is starting to be aware of this. Anyway it's good to see Yu moving and talking. He was silent for too long.

In another news, over 50% of Japan’s gaming market are made up of smartphone games ("Japan’s Smartphone Game Market Worth US$5.4 Billion In 2013, Accounts For Half Of All Games")

Furthermore, further details have been revealed for Yu Suzuki's latest title. Report by SEGA Nerds:
Virtua Fighter Fever Combo will be released in mid-April and will be available on iOS and Android platforms for free.

According to 4Gamer, Suzuki’s role is more of a producer, where he’s supervising the development of the game.

Virtua Fighter Fever Combo’s pre-registration is currently open, and those who register will be rewarded with an “ultra-rare” Akira card.
