"TANK" CONTROLS

Postby FistOfTheNorthStar » Fri Jun 19, 2015 2:23 pm

I have my opinions on the control scheme for S3. It should be a two stick camera that fits shenmue well. Tank controls should be an ADDITIONAL OPTION, not the default. We need S3 to be a success, and if we cling onto old controls we are already asking to have negative reactions from new players, reviewers, etc. So if it must be in S3 make it an OPTION. Otherwise modernize the control to a two stick format for now.

Shenmue II already have analog controls so I'm not worried about this.

This is exactly the solution to the control ideas. Classic option for old-school fans.

They will surely have modern controls in the game. I hope they do include a classic mode with tank controlls though.

I would be fine with the old controls myself, but yeah, if you want the game to be a success they need to be updated.

Why the fuck would you not want to use the original controls with the D-pad scheme?

Because in Shenmue 2 on Dreamcast there was the option for analog control, so why lock it to d-pad when on PS4 and PC you have the option of dual analogs? I would like right stick for looking around and left for movement. But sure, give those the option for d-pad movement as well so they cover all bases. Reconfigurable controls are a must.

Analog feels wrong when controlling Ryo. It was horrible in Shenmue 2 since turning was so much of a problem: I'd rather control him with the trigger. Thats traditional and easy. Fuck analog.

I think I've said in another thread, tank controls are actually quite precise for reduced spaces.

But yeah, the game should have updated controls, most people just hate it now, and hopefully SIII will have a big audience this time.

Modern day d-pads are not as good as the Dreamcast d-pad, so I could imagine it being kind of annoying to walk around with that, with the addition of tank controls. I'm okay with analogue stick movement, along with the right trigger as a modifier for running. It's been done before in games like Assassin's Creed, so it's definitely possible to pull off.

I havent played the original in so long I've forgotten how it controlled.

But I think if people want this game to be a success and maybe help expand the franchise even more...some things will need updating.
