I can't see where that last line helps at all, why say it . I mean, it will only drive a negative feeling in others to have the same feeling. That's how people work, let's just try our best to reach the goals we want. Why not
It's plenty helpful. It's especially helpful for me so that I no longer get emotionally attached to a game that may or may not be shit. After a long line of years waiting - pretty much a decade in my case - I am coming to terms with the honest to God truth: that Shenmue is cursed. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. If the game turns out well, fine. That'll be nice. But at current trajectory, given every single bit of evidence thrown at the wall, it isn't. And I refuse - REFUSE - to be emotionally attached to a game I've been waiting a decade for that turns out to be shit.
So I assume that you will be leaving then, yes?
If that's what you want.
Right, but to be fair a few weeks back we'd have taken a damn 2D side scroller or a manga, now we're giving up before development even starts? I understand your frustration, I share it. But this is definitely going to be a marathon and we haven't even gotten out of the box yet, it's no time to give up. The leaving part over a disagreement with two people was especially silly though, no offense. Just relax, one way or another it can only go up from here, let's do what we do.
I was thinking this the other day, how greedy people were seeming (don't get me wrong) I really want the shenmue experence of a big budget title but people saying how they don't want the game because of whatever has been a bit silly but oh well
I will say this, I don't believe the game can really have that same structure as the first game did, I think running back and forth to talk to different people has to be structured way way better. You have to have better missions and design of missions. I hope he and the team can really pull that off. I think the game needs some kind of climbing and jumping honestly. I know people will fear that, but I mean, the ability to sneak around buildings, entering windows and things. I don't want the core gameplay to feel different, just a simple evolution is enough. It's hard to do missions when you can't really move very well. I don't want it to move like tomb raider or something, more of the idea of deus ex, being able to tackle a mission . Such as going to the offices and sneaking around a bit.
I think the basic idea makes it sond bad to Shenme fans but it doesn't have to seem so different as you think.
But, games have progressed a lot in controls. I really believe you can't have that same mission structure as one had. Half the game didn't have missions at all, that style of gameplay wouldn't even be fun for half the buyers of the first game today. My meaning is, the missons of just walk and talk. We need some actual objectives with the walking and talking mixed in of course.
Like Yu said though, having a better tree and speech system would be great to have actually. Mass Effect seemed mostly ok with that imo
