Keiji Inafune Launches 2 Kickstarters; MMLegends "Successor"

Postby Henry Spencer » Sun Jul 05, 2015 5:14 am

He is launching 2 Kickstarters at once, an anime (from a shitty anime studio) AND a game for for which he described as the sprititual successor to Mega Man Legends. Very little to go on right now, but there's quite a big backlash for this and it isn't any wonder considering how he just announced ReCore and Mighty No. 9 isn't even out yet [and it's confirmed for PC only at this point]. It's pretty awful timing with this Kickstarter considering how many other projects have just been announced and he is wanting funding for both a game and an anime (which are separate Kickstarters, lol). Not only that, but Inafune is using an American developer to make the Mega Man Legends successor, whose prior experience is just in porting games...uhhhh.

Don't think I will be backing this one, despite being a fan of Legends.

If he had waited until Mighty No. 9 came out he should have the money too fund these already. Since it's only the fans money going into MN9 his company should be making pure profit since they don't have much or any money too recover. The fact that this would make it 4 projects he is working on makes me think he's just slapping his name on it rather then being a hands on project leader.

Sounds great, but for some reason I don't feel like backing it (shenmue kinda drowned me).

I don't know, but 2 kickstarters at the same time, a game that it's not even out... I don't know, but I don't like it.

How come I have a feeling that more backlash towards Shenmue 3 will be coming soon?

For sure. I don't think there has ever been a big budget Kickstarter project that has gone smoothly. The moment you put a game on Kickstarter people feel they can be a lot more critical of how it's made and released.

Very true- the gift and the curse of increased fan involvement/interaction!

Nothing like this was around for 1 or 2- we just waited patiently(ish) on here coming up with theories and talking rubbish. Oh... Maybe not so different ;)

They released some pre alpha:

I don't know what does it mean, appart from the models, this can be done with around $150 of unity assets in a couple of days.

Backers are considering trying to put all their effort into either the animation or the game, as both campaigns are failing miserably. The animation is closer to be funded so I guess that one will be the definitive choice.
Inafune is being really greedy here, as Might No 9 is not even a proven solid game. I'm just glad the repercussion of his projects didn't affect Shenmue 3's campaign in the end.

wow it has been in the 400k range for nearly 2 weeks now.

Though I can understand why, considering mighty no9 isn't out yet and that he already received a ton of money for that I can understand why people would start to feel like they're kinda being taken advantage of or at the very least he's being a bit cheeky trying to get the public to fund everything he wants to do.

The thing is: who the fuck wants an anime series ??

I can see that as a stretchgoal, have some anime cutscenes.

The game seemed interesting enough, then they dun goofed with the "you get a prequel" pay more for the full game.

And Inafune kinda sucks, ok he tried to stick them in the ass to capcom, but he is actually doing more than one game, some games look even more high budget than this (recore, xbone exclusive shown at e3).

Sometimes you understand that they need some money, proofconcept and stuff, but this is not a guy that seems to need a "kickstart" needs to "start" and find a publisher.

Honestly I would only support this if No9 turned out to be a failure. But as far as I'm concerned he can wait and see if he can pay for his new games using the profits from that before making a kickstarter.

It seems Inafune is taking in Capcom's philosophy to heart after all those years working for the company.
