Played Shenmue 2 again. Lucky hit is still a life ruiner

Postby Englishhedgehog » Mon Jul 13, 2015 2:39 pm

So during my Shenmue 2 playthrough, I managed to unsurprisingly earn $60 from the first attempt at the crate moving job. After that , I decided to have one go at lucky hit to raise my money a bit.

Within minutes, I was back at $0 and this happened about 4 times during Hong Kong. Lucky hit is evil.

This is why you save the game before you gamble ;-)

Haha, exactly! I cheated like a good 'un when it came time to raise that $500 to meet Ren :P

Save, gamble on Big or Small, flip the Dreamcast lid if I lost. I swear this is probably why my last two Dreamcasts lasers died

I can't be bothered with Delin's complaining. I mean it's a nice minigame, but it's not the best way to make money at all.

After Wong and the boys jump and rob you, I just play Big Or Small Chow in Fortune's Pier over and over again, and quick save and restart the console over again until I hit a jackpot or if I lose.

Gambling indeed.
Another thing you can do is, right at the beginning of the game, you spend ALL your money on toys. Then when you get your bag back, you can re-sell all the toys that you just bought!

What makes it even funnier is that even though you had almost no money at all left, Wong says, "they spent the money gambling!!!" And Ryo is all pissed off, even though it was only like 2 bucks that they stole. LOL!

Even if you don't want to re-sell the toys, it's better to just buy as much stuff as you can at the beginning, rather than just let them steal your money and waste it on gambling. At least then you get a bunch of toys out of it.

Honestly, it's the only thing I really don't like about Shenmue II, that you have to raise money.

I find it a pain-- so like others I cheat by gambling. But the fact that I have to keep reseting is really annoying to me. Otherwise, its a great game, but I hate raising money. Or rather, I hate having to raise money. It should have been used primarily for extra/bonus things, I think.

You can soft reset. ;-)

I used to do this, but on my play through this past week, I spent all my money on lighters and it was just a lot easier. You can sell all the lighters at the Golden Flower Pawn Shop for $35 a piece. (So you get back $35 for every $50 you spend on a lighter.)

Would probably do just as much damage to the laser, with it abruptly resetting itself? Either way I don't think it's very healthy for the Dreamcast :P

No idea, honestly. But hey, less effort.

at least it's a good reflection of 'reality' or to be accurate, some unlucky sods.
...
rarely won a thing on those games.
only way to make ca$h at a reasonable rate, was manual labour.
didn't play too much of the board games, because it's a gyp. ](*,)
the capsule toys, and the tomato shops are great, but the board games?!?!?
worth getting a LOT of readies together to buy (unlock) the saturn or coin-op game for ryo's home use. :P
...
when it came to silly stakes on board games, i passed the pad to a friend, took a walk, humped it the hell outta there, and returned with a clearer skull...and quite a whacking wad on account of friends patience. :-"

typo.

Yeah, but then I feel like I'm cheating. And I am a proud non-cheater
