The New Character Model I have the Most Issues With

Right off the bat, I know these are all a work-in-progress...but we've got a lot of time before 2017..so let's have fun and discuss this.

As bad as Ryo's character model was, I really don't believe it was as bad as what we saw of Lan DI. For those that don't remember, here is what was included on the Kickstarter.



What bothers me so much about this render? It's the emotion the character is showing. He looks like a Dragon Ball Z villian that just got the one-up on Goku.

Lan Di is a cold mofo. We generally have no idea what is going on in that guy's brain so far throughout the series. The only time we've seen emotion from Lan Di is when he avenged his father's death and slightly twitched his mouth into what I assume is a smile.

Not that you need to see it again, but if you do, here's some pics of Lan Di in action.



I do have a lot of faith that by the time the final product comes around, Lan Di will look like his badass self again though...and I can't wait to see it.

What do you guys think about it?

Yeah, like I said in my OP, I'm really not worried. I moreso wanted to post what I thought was wrong with it.

Yeah, Lan Di looked totally off. I do remember an AM2 developer stating that it took a very long time to get something that Yu was happy with when designing Lan Di on the Dreamcast. Pretty much all of the effort went into getting his eyes so cold and cruel.

Joy looked a bit weird in that Shenmue Online trailer too.

I think Ryo and Xiuying are the only one's from that Shenmue Online trailer that looked any good.

The whole KS campaign and the imagery they used was simply bizarre. Why they used some of the models that appeared in Shenmue Online was an odd choice, especially since there was much better original CG artwork to chose from.

I do hope as you said they keep the characters emotion in check, since Lan Di is seen to be very calculating, cold-blooded and emotionless at this point.

P.S. The whole video is really bad. If they show something like that as Shenmue III........so plastic models and so much magic.

Yeah, Lan Di seems cold and ruthless, but I don't get the impression that he is particularly happy, smug or sadistic about doing what he's doing.
