You should have zip your video because videos can be banned from Mediafire too if a copyright is spotted.

Good idea. Archiving now!

Wow I cannot believe that this turns up now, after all these years. This is something I always wanted, a long and in-depth enough making of the game. Bits and pieces have been shown before but this is a whole different package.
I zipped through the video stopping at game footage and other stuff. I will take in the full thing when subtitles are available. But even now this gave so many great impressions of the programming, sound design and everything.

Catched some funny bits of Yu Suzuki himself. I don't know why but it was really weird to see him smoke.
Oh and wich of the two looks way more pissed then they usually ever are to you?

curious as to what Suzuki says about final fantasy 8 and the ps2. i remember he said something about the texture resolution limitations of ps2 in an early interview.

can't wait for translation. looks like a whole lot of amazing info on the way. sound chip stuff looks super interesting.

It's still impressive how the game had progressed through the development. Sega could have perfectly said "STOP" and release the game earlier to lose less money. Fortunately, they didn't.

About Kenji Miyawaki, there were two mysterious artworks behind him but sadly too much blur to see them.

Very nice find. I've put it at the top of my translation list, after I'm done with the Famitsu article translation.

(In the meantime, playing a bit of Shenmue with Japanese voices may help tune your ear to pick up some of the video narration, like the story Yu Suzuki mentioned on the Niconico video... ;-) )

I'll update on this thread.

I've edited the youtube link since it seems that the old video has been removed by user.
(And added again yesterday).

I tried to find out some more info on the user Mo To and found that he/she is registered on Youtube as user "1111moca" which lead me to some users with the same name on japanese ameba.
Unless this sounds familiar to any of you, I don't find nothing shenmue's related with this name.
My guess is that's someone close to the original advertising/publishing team at the time of Shenmue release or someone close to the NHK BS2 channel...

That's what makes it such a amazing point in history. Not only did Sega give Yu the company check book, saying spend whatever you need to, just make it look graphically great, and make the best game you can, but there was "no higher ups" overseeing the development of the Shenmue games at all either. This is the only time in gaming history where this has happen, and it landed in Yu Suzuki's hands of all people, the window existed for a whopping 7 or so years too, It's crazy.

Well I guess he proved he can make more then just arcade style games lol
