And Xiuying's is based on Akira? Interesting. The other two are pretty obvious.

In retrospect it should have been obvious that Xiuying's fighting style was based on Akira. Dat elbow strike.

Damn. Didn't expect Ren being Jacky but I saw Chai being Lion. Does make sense though since the Jeet Kune Do can look scrappy, flashy and patchwork at times.

Where did this slide come from?

Sure, but Ryo has always been a parallel to Akira. Are we just supposed to consider it a coincidence that he and Xiuying practice the same style? Going by Shenmue II, I wouldn't say they do anyway. This is, after all, just a concept slide from '96.

Pretty sure it's from the 2014 GDC post-mortem. Never mind, it's from today.

Ryo is obviously based on Akira but Xiuying? That does come as a bit of a surprise.

Chai being based on Lion is blatantly obvious, especially his characteristic basic stance. As for Ren, we've never really seen him fight so far. He's handled a few Chi You Men suits alright, but they were far from being a match for Ren. But Jacky's fighting style? Yeah, I could see it work. The physical built is similar. Take Jacky's move's and throw in some dirty tricks, learned on the mean streets of Hong Kong - and there you go. That's Ren! :D

But we should take this with a grain of salt. The picture clearly says, it's a 20 years old prototype of Shenmue.

PS: What I also found interesting was the completely new stance Ryo was taking in those pictures from the recent KS update, facing that Chi You Men suit. That stance somewhat resembled Western Boxing. Totally different from the Hazuki Style stance.

Great new little bit of information! I wonder why Yu didn't show this at the Post Mortem though. Looks like it belongs to that presentation.

Hard to see Ren practicing this turbulent style but Jeet Kune Do is a lot like him : very pragmatic.

I've never thought of Ren as a proper martial artist, but rather a street brawler type. i definitely see how the personality evolved from Jacky though.

I think it may just be a place-holder stance rather than Ryo employing a new style. I could be wrong though.

Xuiying is most definitely BajiQuan, however Ryo's style ultimately is an ecclectic collection from the various teachers he's met in his journey.

The stance Ryo had in the recent updates were default boxer animmation/pose from the UE4 stock animation. Nothing to get too worried about.

^Ah, ok. So it's some kind of default stance from UE 4. That explains it all. Thanks.
