[SPOILERS AHEAD] And if all the cave mess was a dream ?

(Chapter 7 and beyond)

Perhaps it will end up like one of those cheesy TV programs where Ryo will wake up in a psychiatric hospital, believing that he is a martial arts expert avenging his father's death, when in reality he was just a forklift driver at the docks.

Shenmue 3 could switch between Ryo on his adventure in China and Ryo in the psychiatric hospital - we're never quite sure which reality is the real one...

If Yu did this it would be THE GREATEST CHEAT in cliffhanger history and the fanbase would never forgive that!!

Exactly. I would say most people waited 15 years to see what happened next after THAT ending, whether it's what was originally planned or not. I'm personally not a fan of retconning anything.

I was convinced for a very long time the mirrors would roll apart, leading to 2 separate tunnels which lead to who knows where. But turns out, it's nothing as exciting as that.

It was mysterious from the start, regarding the ominous reunion of the mirrors, but putting it like that is fallacious.
