Mhm.

There will be a delay of some kind. Either the demo, the game itself, or both.

Not that I'm too bothered by that, as long as neither delay spirals into ridiculousness.

My guess/hope is we'll prob see the trial version in Dec 2017 and the full game the following April.

Does anyone know who the LA dinner backers are? I wonder if the dinner has been delayed until the next E3? I guess the Tokyo dinner can still happen in September regardless of whether Shenmue makes an appearance at TGS or not since Ys Net is based there anyway.

I imagine the purpose of the trial is to obtain feedback from players with enough time to implement sensible changes, so I'm hoping they give at least a six month space between trial and final game.

Thinking about it, the trial could actually make Q1 2017 if we're lucky. If Cedric is already playing Shenmue III in the traditional sense, another 6-9 months of development could give them something presentable, and have the trial launch with MAGIC 2017 in February. I guess a lot of this depends on whether the trial is just the opening hour of Shenmue III (or somewhere in the middle of the game, in Chobu perhaps), or a bespoke demo that showcases the gameplay styles.

Guess i must be one of the rare few that's actually hoping they delay the game a bit so they can make it as best as they can... i mean, fans that are impatient fail to realize that Shenmue 3 is really the one and only chance this series will ever have to get finished in videogame form.

It's vital that Yu and his team make the best they can, if Shenmue 3 fails we won't have the "legendary series only available on niche systems" card to play anymore, it's game over.

I guess if we stay connected to reality, a delay we should expect :D

A delay is not really good... "Sticking to the plan" is the best way for things to get done, providing good planing beforehead. Delaying the release will result in more money going for payments, less for development. Of course I don't mean they have to release unfinished product. I mean they should not be dragged away by implying new features and stuff that was not meant to be in the game from the start of the development. Perfectioning the game can easily become an endless and costly process which is not in our best interest I suppose.

No rush, no delay, just stick to the plan and everything will be ok.

A delay is risky when working within a fixed budget, especially when that budget is already being squeezed for all its worth anyways. I doubt we see a delay because of this.

LA dinner has been moved to December.

I guess that pretty much confirms we'll be seeing Shenmue III at PSX :)

It's not exactly a smoking gun, but it's a good indication of what's ahead.

The question is, do we see the game at all between now and December?

TGS maybe? Though like I said before, having the Tokyo dinner in September doesn't guarantee that they still plan to present anything at TGS. My guess is December will be the first time we'll get a proper trailer. I'm happy with the monthly KS updates until then.

I dunno about a TGS showing either way. The show isn't nearly as relevant as it used to be. If they really want to go all-in at PSX, I'd say skipping TGS is a justified strategic move.

As for the KS updates, I don't have a particular problem with them as they are, but a fresh look at the game itself will do wonders to wash away irrational post-Mighty No. 9 fears. A look at the new Ryo model would be nice, if it's in a state to be shown. Weren't there hints that those at the Monaco dinner got to take a look at unreleased in-progress materials?

Either way, going all summer without new media materials will be... quite a drought. I don't mind long gaps so much, as I know I'll be surprised by the improvements the next time the game appears, but new screens or video generally do a good job of promoting the game.
