We obviously have a lot of expectations for the game, and consciously or not, have already conjured up an image of everything the game should be - from the way the characters should look to the kind of music that should play. Now, facing the reality of life that nothing will ever be as we imagine it, especially in such a creative process as video game design, what would make you not play the game or say bad things about it because you feel your expectations were betrayed?

Nothing... Honestly, I thought about it a bit, but even if the game turns out to be a huge disappointment on every level, I'll still get it to know the story.
I'll certainly play it (if possible) since I placed an order after all And out of principle and curiosity too as a fan. Bad points? I never look for minor flaws in games and go by general impressions. For me, a good story can make up for average gameplay for example. So it would have to be really obvious and lacking in several areas : totally wrong feeling, very awful character design, odd pacing etc., bad fighting system, unresponsive controls etc.
I would prefer it to stay in realistic martial arts and nothing too "magicful". Also a trip back to Japan would be ideal for me, since that was the reason I bought the original Shenmue in the first place.
I die. Lose the ability to use my hands to play games. Have a stroke and forget it. I went homeless. Some freak accident that has left me so badly injured I can't do anything.
I don't think there's anything that would stop me from playing the game, except for things in life that make me stop playing alltogether. Even if the game turns into a spiritual successor with none of the characters or story elements I'd still play it. It carries the name and it's made by Yu Suzuki so I'd still be interested. Well okay this might be too far fetched and luckily won't happen, at least not to Shenmue III.
