OK so there is definitely no way to rip from chankast. While the game works the captures always come out empty, only materials/Textures get ripped fine.

What is interesting though is the wireframe mode as it clearly shows the "cutting" of figure's backs in real time which might help finding poses or angles where the cut off rate is bearable or at least suits the expectations... :?

I thought no one uses Chankcast anymore and use another one,named NullDC.

Well yeah while chankast is outdated i thought it would be worth a try to use for ripping. It is not supporting ripping the geometries at all and the games work less stable and it has many graphics glitches. But what is interesting was the built-in wireframe mode which showed the same cutting as in NullDC, so the loss of geometry is definitely a "feature" of Shenmue 1.

For playing i recommend NullDC which runs Shenmue 1 and Shenmue 2 nearly flawless besides some minor graphics glitches (quite rare) and some music/sound glitches.

So regarding emulators i have few hope the cutting feature can be bypasses making ripping characters from shenmue 1 quite a pain.

To sum it up - unfortunately chankast is useless for ripping besides textures (What nullDC can do as well).
