Chai is just a weirdo seeking attention. I don't think he has a real connection to the Chi You Men and I doubt his assaults on Ryo are based on orders. He just knows about them because he's constantly lurking around corners and overhearing conversations.
According to Chai's biography in the Prima guide, Chai is "a low ranking member of the Chi You Men," though as for whether that is in an official capacity, or he simply considers himself to be the aforementioned, we don't really know. Plus, remember when Terry says something along the lines of, "That creepy skinhead, he took him out to the ship?" I doubt Lan Di would allow some random stalker to follow him around, getting in the way of his business and such, unless he really did have some agency, however miniscule.

Nothing wrong with having two options for subtitles: 'Default' and 'Classic', which are white and coloured, respectively. I'd always go with the latter, personally.

I'm going to buy several copies of Shenmue 3 for my family and friends, what I don't know is when to buy them. Is it better to buy them when they release the game or now? I want to help in the success of the game so I don't know what would impact more.. :-k

Niao Sun will indeed be an enemy of Ryo; she has been described as a manipulator who enjoys playing mind games with her adversaries, so it will be interesting to see how she will work this on Ryo. Little does she know, them titties probably ain't gonna have much of an effect on our boy ;-)

A fair amount of emphasis has been placed on her, so she may very well be Shenmue III 's secondary antagonist.

I wouldn't get your hopes up unless you're going to be playing on PC where modders will be having a field day. The option to play as Dreamcast-style Ryo, as an unlock from completing the game, would be neat, but it depends on how much work that will require in terms of reconfiguring animations, etc.

If I had to guess, I would say that Yu Suzuki is referring to the systemic structure of the game world, and how it functions as a single organism/ecosystem, rather than a few pieces of land loosely joined together like an incomplete jigsaw puzzle, as opposed to being quite so literal.

Factually incorrect? Complete hyperbole? No, not at all. All those games you mentioned are nowhere close to the hype level of Shenmue III. The only one that could come close is Half-Life 3, which does not exist. I mean come on, a continuation to a game that was made back in 2001 and ended on a big cliffhanger is finally coming. On modern platforms 15 years later. The previous two games are also revolutionary masterpieces, it's not like they sucked or something. I can't think of a single game that is/was more anticipated. It's impossible to say what with the fact we've not seen any gameplay whatsoever, but, from what we have seen in screenshots and trailers, I predict the game will sit quite comfortably in the 74-78 range on Metacritic. The more incompetent and/or bitter critics out there will take digs at the game simply because it's Shenmue and its gameplay systems differ so heavily compared to what is expected of contemporary open-world games, but hopefully , just hopefully, the more level-headed will be able to appreciate the game in regards to how it is able to stand on its own two feet where combat, the story, and the world are concerned. A true successor to the legacy.

Steam reviews, I predict, will be in the 'Very positive' bracket.

Then again, the game might turn out to be complete and utter shit, in which case it deserves to be kicked and dragged through the mud, as does any bad game.

This isn't really about Shenmue 3 per se but I was watching some of Bluemue's videos and noticed that Megumi literally stands at the Yamanose shrine all day and night staring into a box to look at the cat... yet she is also observed walking the streets in Sakuragaoka until she finally goes home there.

Maybe Shenmue is a horror game and we just haven't realized it yet. Would explain Ryo's random nightmares.

Absolutely fucking fantastic! Like Shenmue: The Gang Edition , this was clearly made for fans by fans, and will only ever really be understood by the aforementioned.

I love all the little idiosyncrasies:-

- Low quality audio dub
- Iffy lip-syncing
- Nagashima's abrupt, mid-sentence pauses
- Enoki's 'brothers' making an appearance, complete with the dude with yellow shades
- Shenmue sound effects and grunt sounds

The choreography is very well done, too! Hopefully Shenmue III 's will be as smooth and cinematic :D

Why would anyone want to rush through the first game with a Time Skip feature anyway? It felt like it was forced in Shenmue 2 due to reviews and/or feedback from the first title.
Personally, the Shenmue games were an experience to be soaked up. I had no issues wandering about waiting for a shop to open, or a cutscene to activate. It's one of the things I love most about the franchise infact.
Shenmue rewards with patience. That may upset some of todays gamers, but the formula shouldn't be changed to suit them.

As you state in your final sentence, the slow pace of the game might not appeal to, and may even irritate, today's gamers and those who simply didn't play the game around the time of release. And you're 100% correct: the game should not be changed in order to suit them.

It was a design choice, not a flaw, so they'll just have to deal with it and instead of scratching their heads thinking why do I have to wait for things to happen?! , they should be thinking about what they can do within the world in order to pass the time. It's not like the world is devoid of anything to do, unlike many open-world games released over the past five or so years which present little more than a pretty backdrop peppered with animated assets, but that's a mindset they'll just have to step out of through dabbling in what's on offer in Shenmue .

I could say it's because it's the definitive Shenmue experience, and all that jazz, but I've played both games (particularly the first) so many times, to the point where they're branded onto my memory, the changes being brought about by the remaster will be merely cosmetic by comparison.

What I'm most looking forward to is other people being able to experience the games for the first time, and how they will be received almost twenty years later. I'm expecting the same polarisation from all those years ago, if somewhat more amplified due to how used to modern games people are, and it's going to be very interesting viewing it from an outside perspective.

What about the Sonic capsule toys? Sonic didn't exist in 86/87 either and i wouldn't call the capsule toys easter eggs. They are featured more prominently than the Saturn.
Capsule toys can be chalked up to SEGA branding. Without including toys from Sonic , Virtua Fighter , NiGHTS , and the like, capsule toys would have been sparse and boring.

If they're sticking to Yu Suzuki-designed games of the time period alone, the only remaining games are Enduro Racer , Super Hang-On , and After Burner II , all of which are not too dissimilar from their counterparts, so maybe they'll take inspiration from other arcade games and/or create their own, a la QTE Title and Excite QTE 2 .

We know there's punch-ball and pinball machines in the game, so I wouldn't be surprised if the shift was directed towards those sorts of games compared to traditional arcade cabinets.

Shenmue II is the superior game, without debate, but I prefer the original (much like how I prefer the original Mass Effect , Batman: Arkham Asylum , and Metal Gear Solid over their superior sequels). The former is a shining example of identifying and addressing the shortcomings of its predecessor, and blending the improvements seamlessly into the 'bigger and better' formula typically seen with sequels.

The lack of moves training is a step back, and a rather questionable design choice, but I guess FREE Battles and street fights act as a replacement, somewhat.
