So... Arm Wrestling!

We all know that Shenmue is rife with mini-games, but my favourite (yes even more so than lucky hit or betting) is without a doubt the Arm wrestling! But, don't ask me if I'm any good at it

So, how far were you able to get? Some of those guys are just brutal, especially the area with the long line up of wrestlers. I even struggle at the very first wrestler you come across in the Worker's Pier. I can manage $40 but my fingers feel like they are about to snap off The $50 bet makes me feel like I'm going to have heart palpitations

I think because, for me anyway, it's the toughest of the mini-games it makes it more addictive. That rush of adrenaline you get during the harder tiers is something that has endured all these years.

I hope it makes a return to Shenmue 3

Lol i could never win if the bet was 40 or up! I recently saw a video with someone using a turbo controller and they still couldn't beat the 100 dollar bet. Goes to show that was impossible! Good times. I'd usually need to splint my finger afterward

I think I hurt tendons in my arm trying to beat some of them (irony).

Forklift driving and duck racing were always my fave.

Russell Brand does a good stand up bit about the weird body lock mode you have to get into to properly win these types of games. That shit would always kill me to the point where I wouldn't even bother trying the arm wrestling past the easy stages anymore if I were to go back and replay them.

The maximum bet that I could ever beat was $80. I got to 90 and I couldn't get past it. I read here that the maximum bet that you can win is $100 apparently, but damn it is not easy.

If it does make a return in Shenmue III folks better be prepared to break their DualShocks 4/keyboard/other controller

The toughest match I was ever able to pull off was Dory Gordie in the second match. He's the toughest guy and becomes pretty much impossible after that match. You'll be able to push the button fast enough but just not for long enough...

I did beat him in a 100 HK$ match once in the Xbox version on the 360 with a turbo controller. I don't consider that a real victory but at least I have managed to get all the arm wrestlers to give up.

I can sometimes beat the $50 matches, but it'd take a good miracle for me to win above that.

I always heard that, but I don't know if there will ever be a way to prove that it does or does not, unless a hacker found some sort of thing within the game that kept track of all of that.

Another guy said it's only possible with one particular turbo controller. He claims the other ones aren't fast enough. Crazy!

Arm wrestling was one of the few things I didn't care much for in the game. Reason being (of course) I was terrible at it. My memory is a bit fuzzy on this but I probably only managed to beat one guy.

That being said, I do like having it in the game as it definitely made the overall Shenmue-experience richer. It just wasn't a good match for a lazy quitter like me...
