'Cause there was no intereset about it in the 1st place. I'll update video on YT in short while (I'll probably have to edit this post to add link) about it and you'll rate if I should upload it or not. Of course, I won't be uploading whole game but only files to be replaced in english.

Timing and lipsync issues will always be an issue with strait up audio swaps. I'm sure if anyone wanted to be picky enough it could be dealt with, but so far noone seems too picky.

Like I said before, I never played dreamcast port with english voices so can't tell how well or bad was it made so maybe my swap wasn't that bad after all.

Hey wow, that's pretty impressive! Somebody should do that for the Dreamcast version too. I know our community is kinda split on the English VO's, but the way I see it, people should have their choice on how they want to play the game on both systems. ;)

Great work! If you could upload the files and let me know what needs to be done, I'd be happy do it myself. I have the original XBOX game here and a modded XBOX.

I've searched the forum for this but haven't found a definite answer. Has anyone done the opposite of this (ie add Japanese voices into the XBOX version)?

didn't play this dreamcast conversion yet so I can't give any comparison
anyway, simple conversion (like mine) to have jap voices on xbox makes problems with timing and lipsync (files size to be "injected" to iso is about 1.25gb). You don't have to replace them if you're using modified xbox (I added edited xbe to run either english or japanese dubbing, just be sure it's not graphical selector by any means).

why not simply replace japanese subtitles with english subtitles on the japanese dreamcast shenmue 1?

Just a lil update, my ISP took away hosting...

I do have online backup that I can share though. It sends an email to whatever email I tell it to and sends their password out with a link to the files.

The other games sound fine, so the problem is certainly not on the console.

I played around a bit more though, and now I realized that the weird voices just happens on the cutscenes, when the black bars appear on the screen. The audio on the regular in-game conversations is fine... all the rest is fine too(music, sound effects, etc) and that makes it even weirder to me. Do you guys have any idea on this?

Also, I don't really remember if I downloaded this from links posted here( it IS Smith's repack though). There is a big "!!!FIXED" written on the iso of the first cd. I wonder if the problem is just on the first cd... I have no way to test it though. I also wonder if I download an older version or a fix version that went wrong...

I have the same problem as above. Along with the slightly metallic voices during cutscenes, there's a scary burst of static towards the end of the opening intro movie with Shenhua. It's still playable, but I can honestly do without it and I'm just wondering if this is only a problem for a select few. For the people that got perfect sound on their games, maybe list your burning methods to see if that is the problem? It's strange because my burned 99min disc of the original Japanese with English subs sounds just fine.

dammit i wish i wasnt so thick as mince when it comes to PCs. i must have this english version for my dreamcast. so is this 99 min cdr thing still alive and kicking? if so can you possibly give me a direct link to the downloads? ive got no problem buying the disks thanks to the links provided. but as for getting them to work on my dreamcast im an idiot. does the dreamcast need to be modded or something for this to work or is it just a simple burn to the disks and hey presto?
cant beleive its taken me these many years to sign up to this site but i just recently started playing shenmue again after i saw the most recent yu suzuki interview which got me all excited about a possible shenmue 3.

as for the one that created this mod......YOU SIR ARE A GOD IN MY EYES thank you for makin this longtime shenmue fans dream come true.
i truly believe shnemue should be on dreamcast only and shenmue 3 if it comes should also get a dreamcast port.

if you search shenmue 2 on this site http://dcisozone.com you should be able to find it in ddl

to burn it you need a program called alcohol 120% and I think your dreamcast won't need to be modded if it was released before a certain date, but if it was one of the later releases then yes it does need to be modded to read burned games and if it's not a pal (European) dreamcast then you will need a boot disc as it is region locked

Btw, 99min disc 1 works on 99min banana cd. But 99min disc 2 does not work on banana cd. I tested the disc image in an emulator so I can confirm it works, but my dreamcast won't read 99min disc 2. Has anyone else had this probelm, or at least has anyone else got that disc to work?

Disc 3 99min isnt working on banana cd either. But 80min does work.

I want to play the 99minute version, but I don't feel like buying 50 of these discs. Does anyone have 15 that they would sell for $15?

You might want to talk to the user atreyu187 at TIZ. He actually uploaded the 99 min version for us HERE, and he orders many of them each year. You might talk to him and ask if he would be interested in selling some.
