I along with many others lost hope in Shenmue years ago, but all has changed. I've always been thinking of ways that Shenmue could stay relevant , mostly by adding new gameplay features that some newbies and veterans of the series may find refreshing. Well as we all know, Shenmue 3 may not have as much depth in play length or will we even see a Shenmue 4? Or will Suzuki-San cram the rest of the series into Shenmue 3? Time will tell. But for now, I'd like to hear some of your guy's ideas for the future of the series.
Considering that Yu Suzuki will allow those that pledge $5 towards the kickstarter to vote on certain things we would like to see in Shenmue 3, I figure why not start here and now. I'm sure there are a lot of great ideas we can come up that would fit the tone of the game that perhaps Suzuki-San would actually like to see in the game itself!
Here goes, If you've ever played The Last of Us, you may be familiar with the way the third person perspective is shown. I like the idea of that being in Shenmue. It would make the controls less "clunky" and easier to get into for newbies to the series. There is a slight difference between TLOU perspective and a Sleeping Dogs perspective. Both could work, but TLOU would translate well to Shenmue 3 in my opinion.
I also like the idea of training or teaching martial arts to the local villagers in the game (Maybe like a side job to earn experience similar to how training in an empty parking lot in Shenmue was done). It would add some depth as well as some interesting situations IMO.
If we can get an interesting conversation going, maybe this can translate into a poll we can vote on and the idea could get to Suzuki that way.
Please feel free to add!!
